In the earlier post was my recipe for Hot Cheese Dip. Today I will explain how I make Sub sandwiches. They are good for parties (like the Super Bowl) or an easy travel food.
Ingredients: You will need a loaf of unsliced bread like French bread, sliced lunch meat, cheese, sliced onions, sliced tomatoes, pickles slices, lettuce, olives, pepper slices, lettuce leaves or shredded iceberg, or anything else you like on a sandwich.
As far as condiments: I like to use Italian dressing, but ...<< MORE >>
In an earlier post, I talked about renting a house that had all the windows broke and the landlord let me have a month of rent for replacing the window panes. This house was so cold even after replacing the glass. My bedroom was so cold that frost would climb up the wall at night. This was an old, insulated house and the rent was cheap. I only had a tiny gas heater, which really only kept the front room warm (slightly). If you can think of ...<< MORE >>
I hear people complain that it’s cheaper to eat junk food than healthy food. That’s not true. Yes, some foods like Ramen noodles can be cheap but for the most part, I don’t think junk food is cheaper. For instance, comparing pound for pound of potatoes with potato chips is a good example. Every year my husband loves to celebrate the Superbowl. This year for the first time, he just didn’t care. First, he did not care for either team. Second, no one was coming over to watch the game because our grandson was sick. Third, we were broke and didn’t want to buy a lot of junk food to snack on. Instead, we ate chili left over from Kk’s birthday party and cornbread. ...<< MORE >>
I love to garden, but in the last few years haven’t really had the opportunity to garden (or so I thought). Actually, I've been investigating different ways to garden for people without an actual yard. Last spring we planted a tomato plant in the flowerbed of the house we rent, but the ground was very poor and hard and the plant remained small and stunted. I think we might have got two tiny tomatoes. This year I hope to do better.

This is a variation of my friend Virginia’s recipe for spaghetti sauce. It is good for spaghetti, lasagna, or pizza. This makes a lot of sauce we eat it once for supper then I put 2 quarts in the freezer. Your family might be smaller and only need pint-size containers. I make large pots of chili and freeze the extra the same as I do with spaghetti sauce. Most of the time I will double up this recipe, one recipe makes a little over 3 quarts, and ...<< MORE >>
Okay there really isn’t any way to save money with kids or at least I haven’t found that to be true. There was a time they were considered unpaid labor but no longer. With each child, I was amazed at how different they were from the very beginning, but it was even more apparent between the girls and boy. My girls were tomboys when they were young so I didn’t expect much difference when my sons came along. Boy was I surprised.
